Recruitment Dialog[edit | edit source]
Owyn: I've got a very eager client - a Warner-Braun splicer - who wants to meet you at the club. In fact, he refuses to leave.
Troy: Finally, finally! Owyn promised you would be coming, promised that she had your ear ...
Bandit: Well met, Troy Zang.
Troy: I had started to doubt you, Owyn. But here you are - I need your help quickly, Bandit. Every minute that ticks by I know my son is closer to his death.
Owyn: I have heard some of the story, and I think you'd best start at the beginning, Troy.
Troy: The beginning, the beginning. This is a long story... Patience, planning, revenge.
Owyn: Forgive the good doctor, he has a penchant for dramatics it seems.
Troy: Fine the facts - 13 years ago my wife was murdered. Sarah worked for a Warner-Braun shareholder as an event coordinator. Throwing parties, charities, whatever. One night, the corporate police came to my door and told us - my son, Dagon and I - that she had died in a terrible accident. She had fallen down the stairs at the office ... Terrible mistake, she was alone, they said, and she died instantly. But when they wouldn't let me see the autopsy... I could feel their lies in my bones. The report written by the doctor was too clean, too perfect. I paid a small fortune for someone on the inside to download the report off the medical scanners and it wasn't for nothing She had died from blunt trauma to the head. Multiple impacts. Someone had killed her. My son was old enough to understand, he was 16. I told him everything. It was clear what they were hiding, the shareholder Johan Brauk... whatever he had done, he had murdered her.
Troy: And then it was all swept under the rug in a hurry and we didn't dare raise our voice. We were tiny, insignificant compared to the mighty Brauk family. So we waited and I hatched a plan. Right before I was deployed to New Boston, we put it into motion. I secretly implanted Dagon with a prototype and shielded Chem-Hive. My own design, the one and only. I left and then it was his turn to wait. A little bribery got him invited to a Brauk charity event. Dagon always wanted blood-for-blood, just like I did. And he knew the cost he would bear to get our revenge. That night he quietly poisoned Johan Brauk and the bastard died in his sleep. Before he could even become a suspect, Dagon slipped onto a Warner-Braun ship bound for New Boston. But ... things were hot when he arrived here. I didn't have a place to hide Dagon, so he ended up in the underground. Now, he has disappeared, without a single trace... But I know you can find a trace. I know someone has picked him up, maybe Warner-Braun but... they'll figure it out what he did and they'll kill him.
Make your choice and continue:
- If Dagon has a unique cybernetic prototype in his skull, a lot of people might be interested in that.
- Why hasn't Warner-Braun come after you yet? If they fingered Dagon for the kill, picking you up must not be far behind.
- Maybe Dagon left on his own?
Bandit: If Dagon has a unique cybernetic prototype in his skull, a lot of people might be interested in that.
Troy: The implant is highly shielded, that was one of the things we had to add. Otherwise Dagon would never have gotten inside the Brauk function with an unregistered implant. So no one would even know it was there.
Blur: Don't underestimate Boston's vultures and what they might do if they smelled a whiff of shiny new prototype or glitzy tech.
Bandit: Maybe the shielding was the give away he was hiding something. They might not even know what they are trying to get but they'll want to get it and tear it apart.
Troy: You know best. I admit it is possible he wasn't picked up by Warner-Braun. But if that is the case, and they are going to slice my son up to study the prototype, all the more reason to find him fast.
Make your choice and continue:
- No one goes missing without a trace, especially not in this town. (Legwork)
- You illegally smuggled Dagon into New Boston and dumped him in the underworld? What did you expect to happen? (Reject)
- Why hasn't Warner-Braun come after you yet? If they fingered Dagon for the kill, picking you up must not be far behind.
Legwork
Sputnik: The coffin hotel was squeaky clean. Too squeaky.
Bandit: Too squeaky, huh? So someone nabbed Dagon.
Sputnik: Yeah, he was taken in the night. They wiped his room down, wiped hotel security clean, bribed some of the help staff. It was pretty professional.
Bandit: They expected someone to come looking?
Sputnik: Maybe, or that's just how they do business. But down there, below the level, it doesn't matter how careful you are someone is going to see you. If they really wanted it quiet, they needed to bribe more people in the street. It didn't take long waving some U-Dahs around to pick up their trail. The rest went smoothly, I tracked the trail to the rotting old district towers where they've got him locked up. You were right, it was just Que Milieu Syndicate vultures picking off a vulnerable target, planning a slice-and-dice.
Make your choice and continue:
- This is the German-Connection, this is what we do. Troy promised that he had some money hidden that he could funnel to us. (Mission)
- We lie and say that Dagon fled on a train, maybe to Atlanta, maybe farther. We keep our new splicer friend as long as we can and put this behind us. (Reject)
Owyn: You are going to need to tap into that secret stash of funds you referenced before, Troy.
Troy: I knew it - someone came for Dagon. Who was it?
Sputnik: Some discreet and careful killers hired by Que Milieu. They did a pretty good clean up job, but it wasn't enough. Right now Dagon is locked up in a prison in a ruined basement of an abandoned hab stack, District Towers 83.
Troy: Somehow they detected the shielded Chem-Hive. Now, our weapon will cost his life. Whatever happens, we killed Johan Brauk and avenged my wife, Dagon's mother. We did what we promised to do. But Dagon shouldn't have to pay that cost ... Maybe me, but not my son.
Bandit: Owyn has made assurances that you can fund a hit against the secret prison. It sounds like that might save your life as well.
The ELEVENTH HOUR job is on a short timeline because they could kill Dagon at any time prying the Chem-Hive out of him.
