Under Shadow of Fame

From Cyber Knights: Flashpoint Wiki

Under Shadow of Fame is a potential recruit for the mercenary squad.

Backstory[edit | edit source]

Your famous father, Cowboy 6, pulled off hacks 10 years ago that shook megacorps to the core as he crashed entire satellite networks and paralyzed a Warner-Braun gleamer before being caught and executed. • Faction-Ex: Left Los Zagales without burning bridges and is still able to operate in their territory.
  • Faction Barred: Due to bad blood and history, you are incapable of executing Legwork inside Warner-Braun territory without drawing the wrong kind of attention.
  • Wanted by Faction: Is hunted by Warner-Braun Global.
  • Dreams of Gleam: Dreams of escaping Earth to a new life on a space station 'gleamer' or even to another planet.
  • Hidden Identity: Needs to keep their old identity, from above the level, hidden to avoid attracting old enemies and unwanted attention.
  • Trusts: Has established a lasting trust with Judge (Gang Boss contact). For years, <Wireghost> worked with and ran digital infiltration for Judge.

Recruitment Dialog allows the player to choose an additional option from the following:

  • Stolen Shadow Site Details: You stole the site details of a Warner-Braun Global shadow site operating far outside the bounds of corporate law. Maybe this will be leverage or maybe someday it will turn into a heist.
  • De-activated Deltaware: In your past, you went under the splicer's knife to implant megacorporate grade deltaware. Now it is deactivated, a metallic dead-weight inside you. Maybe someday you can get it re-activated.
  • Indebted 1 (on Judge (Gang Boss Contact)): +1 Favor per Month

Starting Cybernetic[edit | edit source]

The Wireghost will start with the following Cybernetic:

  • Cortex Wetware 2: grants Wireghost class, +1 Tech, -5% Stress Res, +20 IO Boost

The Wireghost may start with the following Cybernetic if the right recruitment dialog option is selected:

  • Medusa G-Wire (Spinal Slot - Targeting Computer): This implant has been deactivated. It neither grants any effects nor can it be removed until reactivated.

Recruitment dialog[edit | edit source]

CK: We've put out the call for a new Wireghost. What did you find?

Face: I worked the network and I netted a promising solo operator. Keep in mind - the people who end up down here, willing to join a Cyber Knight's crew ... They've all got baggage, bad blood, someone hunting them. No one makes it this far into the shadows without a tattered record. The new potential recruit is waiting in the roster for your review.

Face: Why would we know your name, <recruit>?

Recruit: You wouldn't have heard of me really, but everyone makes a big fuss when they find out who my father was. So I like to get it out the way early.

CK: You've got quite the ice-breaker ... Who was he?

Recruit: On the matrix, he used the handle Cowboy 6.

CK: The Cowboy 6 ...?

Face: The same one who hacked the Warner-Braun military satellite grid and crashed their entire network of Orion sats into the Pacific?

Recruit: The one, the only, Cowboy 6.

CK: That's heavy. I shouldn't have been snide earlier, that is a hell of an ice-breaker and I see why you get that out early.

Face: Ok, but is it true the Cowboy went on to hack the Warner-Braun gleamer, Space ONE, and paralyzed it in space?

CK: The ransom on that one must have been insane.

Recruit: He did but ... He went too far on that one, made a mistake and they caught him. I never saw him again, I never watched the execution vid.

CK: That was a sad end ... So, he taught you and you're following in his footsteps?

Recruit: Not exactly - he was a classic Hacker with his bristling MatrixLink 7. I don't want to know what he'd say if he found out I landed a Cortex Wetgate. He was always hiding somewhere in a dingy hack-haven. When they came for him, he probably didn't even have a gun. I don't want to go like that. So I don't dive on that aging direct-to-brain crap. I ghost in, I get close, I do my work.

Make your choice and continue:

  • I like to sneak around a problem, do some proper Sleuthing and put all the back together again. (+1 Will and +3% Legwork Success)
  • I won't lie, I'm always chasing the next big hack, and then the next big one - just like Cowboy 6, an Adrenaline Junkie (+1 Reaction, -10 Hit Points, +1 Initiative, -1m Move Detection Radius, +5% Move Speed and 20% chance to gain Stress if left behind on a mission if Ready status, 10% to gain double Hype on mission completion)
  • I've grown up practicing the same Thieving ways as my father but as I said to be close to the action. (+1 Reaction, -2m Move Detection Radius and +0.1 Move Points)

Recruit: I won't lie, I'm always chasing the next big hack, and then the next big one - just like Cowboy 6, an Adrenaline Junkie. I know you feel me you're motivated like hell to climb that ladder too, Cyber Knight.

CK: In our line of work, that can be the difference between a score and a disaster. What do you think, Haze?

Face: I've got one more question - you've been out on your own for a long time. Cowboy 6 went down a decade ago. Who have you been running with to get that Cortex Wetgate? That's not cheap chrome. You didn't earn that kind of money without pulling off some heists.

Recruit: I found a business partner in the Ox - they are the rent-a-cops of the underworld, right? Well, I was their rent-a-Wireghost. I still have that connect but, eventually, I had to move on me again. Things were catching up with

CK: You're living under the shadow of Cowboy 6's infamy ... and all the enemies he made along the way. So I'm not surprised you're in trouble - but tell me exactly what is going to eventually catch up to you? And before you answer, let me be clear -- if you want in this company, trust is our baseline. So, even if you don't like your own answer, it better be the truth.

Make your choice and continue:

  • I had to get my revenge for my dad somewhere - I hacked Warner-Braun hard and uncovered an illegal black site. For now it's my secret - later maybe it can be yours.
  • I stole a hot cybernetic spinal prototype from UltraTek. I paid to splice it in but somehow they bricked it when it came online.
  • All those years I ran with my Ox boss, Judge ... I saved her life and squad enough times she is Indebted to me.

Recruit: All those years I ran with my Ox boss, Judge ... I saved her life and squad enough times she is Indebted to me.

Face: It always helps to have another friend who owes us.

Recruit: And a reliable one too, Judge is no slouch.

CK: Was Judge providing cover for you, helping you stay underground?

Recruit: Yes, you're a sharp one, Aspire.

CK: So now that you're out, you need another squad to help cover you.

Recruit: Yes, there may be head hunters eventually now that I've been flushed from my Ox cover.

Face: As long as we know the risks, we can make the decisions.

CK: A private word, <face>? What do you think?

Face: Everyone in this business has something haunting their past. We've got to keep that in mind when weighing a new recruit.
