This story line has several legworks and one mission with a twist. The story line starts with a message from Blur: "We've got to talk about getting someone in milsec on our payroll". It is only available when your team Power Level is 3 or more.
Before the mission[edit | edit source]
You can do the "Carnivore Search" legwork to find a corrupt commander in Brave Star, who is added as a contact. They propose a mission "Carnivore" to jump in ahead of a Brave Star raid to steal an AI trainer. In the mission planning screen, you will be able to obtain a leverage which is another legwork, "Chem-Fac Depths". This is a fairly short duration legwork, which you should be able to easily fit in before the mission expires. It gives you an alternate entrance, avoiding the first level of the normal mission. This has fewer guards and less security, so it may be worthwhile.
During the mission[edit | edit source]
This mission has two levels, with a total of four hack opportunities (two on each level). The first level requires a hack to open a door. The second level requires a hack to steal the trainer.
But, as soon as you steal it, the Brave Star raid arrives! The dialog introduces a Brave Star detective who is on your trail. This also closes off all your planned exits, so you need to hold ground and wait for Blur to find new exits. Two squads of tough Brave Star reinforcements appear, starting a three way firefight with any remaining guards. You can fight the Brave Star troops if you feel lucky, but running for the exit may be safer. Protip: the elevator at the far side of the level is the most accessible exit; you can aim your team there in advance.
As if the Brave Star squads weren't enough, you will also discover a prisoner in a cell in a far corner of the map. If you feel really lucky, you can have your hacker break into this cell at its nearby terminal and rescue the prisoner. They become another wireghost contact. Protip: some players bring two hackers on this mission and send the second one immediately over to the cell.
After the mission[edit | edit source]
In the post-mission dialog, your hacker lets you know of another opportunity. You can try a legwork "Sigma Sploits" which may grant you several "sploitkits", inventory items that may have a use in the future to provide powerful leverage on hack missions. This will annoy the Brave Star contact and reduce their trust slightly, but it is a small price to pay.
Later[edit | edit source]
Some time after the mission is completed, Blur will make another announcement: "I've picked up rumors that the Brave Star detective hasn't given up on hunting us yet". This launches a set of Head Hunters against the team. As defense, you can execute a legwork "Backtrace Bounty" to try to find more information. When it concludes, your Brave Star commander will give you several options. They provide a 10-day window of protection against any bounty hunter, available as a "new message" in their contact screen. They can also provide you immediate information about the exact name and skills of the bounty hunter who took the contract, in exchange for an Obligation.
The legwork also provides a follow-up solo hack mission "Bounty Counter-Hack". The goal is to find a "Counter-Fingerprint Ledger". This is a file, which goes into your cold storage, which will surely have some use later when more content is added.
Relationship to Snitch Snuff Out[edit | edit source]
There is a mission Snitch Snuff Out where Brave Star sends reinforcements. If you have done Carnivore before that, there is an interesting followup. See details there.
