Appearance Tab[edit | edit source]

Each merc profile has an Appearances tab which controls the features of the mercenary's face and body. Apperances can be chosen from the Customize profile in game start or from their profile in the Barracks. There are about 14 sections in the tab, each controlling one feature such as hairstyle or backpack.

width=600

Click on any of the preview squares to set the value for that feature. The selected feature will display on the image to the right. The text "Options" appears at the bottom of the square. Click the feature a second time or press space to set options for the feature. For most features, this brings up a color selector where you may select the specific highlight colors for the feature. Some features have secondary and even tertiary color selections. Some features have additional options for changing the size and shape of features.

When you move the cursor so it is not over any of the preview squares, the square corresponding to your selection will have the text "Selected" at the bottom of the square; move the mouse over that square and it will change back to "Options". For some of the features, the character view on the right will zoom in to show more details of the mercenary's head; for others, it will zoom out to show their entire body. Use the A/D keys, or drag body image with the left mouse button, to rotate the mercenary.

NOTE: v1.10.75 introduced a new hair, eyebrow, and beard system. The new system has much higher quality mesh and texture, but it also places a much higher drag on graphics performance. If you have performance issues with the new hair or like the old style better, you can swap back to the old hair system, and the entire game will switch over for you. Just go to Options > Graphics > Hair Quality and set it to Legacy. You can even use this trick if you love a specific legacy hairstyle for a character; you can swap to Legacy, set it for your character, and then swap the game back to Detailed Hair.

Renaming[edit | edit source]

Press "c" or click the Rename button at the lower right of the tab to rename the mercenary. The form contains entry fields for the first name, last name, and code name. There is also a randomize button to have the game choose randomly from its internal list of names. Code Name can be changed only if the merc has already earned a Code Name.

Import/Export[edit | edit source]

Press "h" or click the Import/Export button at the lower right of the tab to import or export appearances. This is a handy feature to share appearances between mercenaries, either another saved game, or with other players. All the features of the mercenary's appearance are stored in an encrypted string. Buttons enable cut and paste the encoded string to and from the clipboard. Another button can save the appearance into a library which is stored with the save files. If cloud save is enabled, saved appearances can be shared across a player's games on different computers. This is a handy way to re-use the appearance of mercenaries from one game to another. Coded appearance strings can be pasted to share in social media, text documents, and email, as well.
